How does Evapo-Rust work?
Evapo-Rust works by a process called selective shelateration. It is a process in which synthetic molecules bind to iron molecules. The active ingredient in Evapo-Rust can only bind to iron molecules that are in rust, but the substance is not strong enough to lift the molecules from fresh steel/iron.

Does Evapo-Rust remove browning and other forms of oxide surfaces?
Yes, Evapo-Rust removes browning and blue oxidation on steel, but zinc treatments are not touched. Paint is also not removed as long as the paint is not pigmented with iron oxide.

What sizes of containers is Evapo-Rust available in?
For retail sale, Evapo-Rust comes in 1 litre, 5 litre and 20 litre canisters. For industry, there is a 200 liter and a 900 liter container.

Should there be aftercare after you have derusted?
As a starting point, no. In the case of deeper grave rust, it may be an advantage to rinse once or twice along the way to get the grave rust to the bottom. After the treatment, rinse the items thoroughly with warm tap water.

I get a black surface/film on certain items after using Evapo-Rust. What is it and how do I get rid of it?
It is coal from the steel itself that remains and settles on the surface, and it is a natural phenomenon that occurs after the removal of rust. The charcoal settles in the pores in the metal, but is easy to get rid of by scrubbing the item with a scouring pad or a stiff brush when rinsing the item.

Can I derust items that are too large to put in the liquid?
Yes, you can. You wet a cloth or tea towel in Evapo-Rust and place it on the rusty piece. Then it is covered with plastic or cling film that you tape so that the water does not evaporate.

How do I know that the liquid can no longer be used?
Evapo-Rust ends up being completely black and eventually it doesn't work anymore.

How do I dispose of used Evapo-Rust?
We recommend handing in used Evapo-Rust at the recycling station or approved sites.

Do the items have to be COMPLETELY clean before they are put in the liquid?
Evapo-Rust contains agents that penetrate oil and dirt. However, it must be said that dirt and oil residues will prolong the process and the life of the liquid will be impaired.

Can I spray/brush on Evapo-Rust to remove rust?
As a starting point, no. The water will evaporate long before the disarmament is completed. For very thin rust layers, you can be successful by applying it with a sponge and possibly rubbing a little. The longer the item is wet, the greater the chance of getting rid of the rust.

Can I clean brass, copper and aluminium with Evapo-Rust?
No, Evapo-Rust does not clean any of these metals.

What is the shelf life of Evapo-Rust and how many times can it be used?
